Who Am I

In 1976 I was born in Usti Nad Labem, a northern city in the Czech Republic. Like most newborns my first reaction was to cry. But there I was. A few weeks later I was whisked away to a little town outside of Prague called Celakovice. There I was introduced to the world. From the comfort of a baby carriage I studied my surroundings. The big black family dog, the river just minutes away from the house, and the smell of blossoming trees in the spring. I liked it there.

Then due to the repression of communism, it was decided that I be taken away to the new world. At age four I found myself in Canada. For the next 27 years I lived under the big blue sky and towering mountains of Calgary Alberta. Puberty and adulthood was reached there. I had a house, truck and a quaint small business. But something was missing.

So I dumped it all and came back to where it all began. For the last 3 years I have been living in Celakovice. Prague is a 20 minute train ride away. And I love it here.

Why This Website About Prague

When I arrived here I purchased a larger house then necessary – one with a spare bedroom. Because I knew that I would have visitors. Most of my friends from Canada have already visited me. They come for about two weeks. In those two weeks I show them around Prague. The real Prague. Not just the tourist traps. We use the metro and trams, visit restaurants and pubs that locals frequent – that I frequent. See the sites not shown in tourists guides. With me as their guide they can experience Prague as a citizen and not as a patron at Disneyland. The first day we see the must see sites – Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, the Prague Castle...but after that it is Czech life as normal.

This website is created for those who do not want to experience Prague simply as a tourist. It is for those that want to know what the locals know. In the three years that I have lived here I learned a lot about Prague. And that is what I want to use this website for. To put down what I have learned about the great city so that you can use it to make your visit to Prague more enjoyable.

This website give you a unique prospective. Not from a tourist guide, or foreigner who visited for a few weeks. I live here. And as a 'New Worlder' coming back to Mother Land I think I can show you a side of Prague hidden to most tourists.

Come visit Prague – its really is the heart of Europe.

Who is this Prague Local?

Roman
My name is Roman and I want to help you experience the real Prague.

In 2006 I packed my bags and boarded a plane for Prague. The plan was to stay for a year - I am still here because I love this city. After of few years of living in Prague, learning the language and making a lot of friends I have progressed from a wide eyed tourist to a goulash eating local.

Prague is an amazing city with ancient buildings, friendly people and delicious food. That is why millions of people visit Prague every year. Unfortunately, most of them stick to the main tourists spots and miss experiencing the real Prague.

This website was created with the hope that besides visiting the Charles Bridge and Old Town Square, you will venture down a cobble stoned alley and join the locals for a golden beer and a hardy bowl of goulash.
