Prague Weather

The average temperature for Prague is 5 degrees Celsius. In the 3 years that I have been here the hottest has been 32 degrees August, and -21 degrees in January. But these are extreme weather cases.

The Summer Weather

The summers is usually sunny and 20 degrees Celsius. If it rains then only for a few minutes. Usually, you can hide away under an extended roof, or run into a church and wait it out. It will be a big dump of rain for 5 minutes and then complete stop. The clouds part, the sun peaks through, and like a bunch of marbles spilling on the floor, people fill the street once more.

The Winter Weather

I spent most of my life in Canada. In the winter it could get as cold as -30 degrees. So I am use to the cold. But when I spent my first winter here I was surprised how cold it felt. The thermometer claimed that it was -15 but it felt like -30. That is when I found out that Prague is a moist city, so the cold feels really cold – cold that you feel in your bones. A cold that no amount of sweaters, hats, and gloves can remedy. You are cold on the inside. Nothing to do but bare it. Luckily, there are lots of restaurants offering warm onion soup. That helps.

Cloudy Days

In the winter Prague has many cloudy days. Weeks can go by without seeing the yellow ball in the sky. If you depend on the sun for your daily fill of energy then Prague is probably not the best place for you in the winter. I am physiologically stable person, but even for me, two weeks without the sun can be depressing. Weather does affect mood.

Who is this Prague Local?

Roman
My name is Roman and I want to help you experience the real Prague.

In 2006 I packed my bags and boarded a plane for Prague. The plan was to stay for a year - I am still here because I love this city. After of few years of living in Prague, learning the language and making a lot of friends I have progressed from a wide eyed tourist to a goulash eating local.

Prague is an amazing city with ancient buildings, friendly people and delicious food. That is why millions of people visit Prague every year. Unfortunately, most of them stick to the main tourists spots and miss experiencing the real Prague.

This website was created with the hope that besides visiting the Charles Bridge and Old Town Square, you will venture down a cobble stoned alley and join the locals for a golden beer and a hardy bowl of goulash.
